Eight Graduate Students Join PECS

Eight graduate students have been selected to join the Princeton Energy and Climate Scholars Program (PECS) for the 2014-2015 academic year.
Representing six (6) departments across campus, the eight (8) newly selected students will contribute a wide range of climate- and energy-related expertise to the existing group of PECS scholars. Collectively, their interests consist of: climate modeling, carbon cycles in tropical rainforests, carbon dioxide capture and storage, solar and wind energy, and the impact of cities on their surrounding microclimates.
The new graduate students include: Jane Baldwin (atmospheric and oceanic sciences), Cleo Chou (ecology and evolutionary biology), Gregory Ferguson-Cradle (history), Bo Guo (civil and environmental engineering), Janam Jhaveri (ecology and evolutionary biology), Qu Li (civil and environmental engineering), Wei Peng (the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs), and Josh Spechler (mechanical and aerospace engineering).
In May of 2008, the Climate and Energy Challenge initiated the PECS Program. PECS brings together a group of talented and engaged Princeton Ph.D. students with research expertise ranging from energy security and technology to climate science and policy. To date, including the new fellows, 60 graduate students have participated in the PECS program.

PECS aims to enhance the research experience of its members by encouraging them to transcend the boundaries of their fields and by fostering a sense of common intellectual adventure. Drawing from a broad range of disciplines, PECS students and members of the Faculty Board have a unique opportunity to thoughtfully approach the multifaceted energy challenges of the 21st century.
The selection process is undertaken jointly by the Faculty Board and members of the student committee.
