American Geophysical Union Recognizes Dr. Vecchi with Prestigious Fellowship

Gabriel Vecchi has been elected Fellow of the American Geophysical Union, the world’s largest Earth and space science association. Dr. Vecchi, the Knox Taylor Professor of Geosciences and faculty director of the High Meadows Environmental Institute (HMEI), Princeton University, is among fewer than 0.1% of AGU members to be selected as an annual Fellow. This recognition honors Dr. Vecchi’s groundbreaking work examining short- and long-term changes to the oceans and atmosphere, including the monsoons, El Niño, and the impact of climate on tropical cyclones, weather extremes, and global patterns of rainfall and drought.

Dr. Vecchi joined the Princeton as a faculty in the department of Geosciences and HMEI in 2017. He has served as HMEI director since 2021. He is also an associated faculty member in Princeton’s Atmospheric & Oceanic Sciences program and the deputy director of the Cooperative Institute for Modeling the Earth System, a joint institute between Princeton and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Vecchi on this prestigious achievement.
