Dare to Venture: Rob Pringle

The fourth video in the Venture Forward “Dare to Venture” series features HMEI associated faculty Rob Pringle, professor of ecology and evolutionary biology, who is daring to ask the questions that move us from the present to the possible when it comes to understanding and restoring ecosystems.

“How can a piece of elephant dung help us rebuild a broken ecosystem?” At Mpala Research Centre in Kenya and Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique, Pringle and his team are finding answers to that question, collecting fecal samples from animals and analyzing them. Building online databases of plant and animal DNA, they have been able to map out the ecosystem’s food webs in order to preserve stressed habitats and forecast the impact of environmental disturbances.
