Paul Chirik, Edwards S. Sanford Professor of Chemistry, presented “Re-Imagining the Periodic Table: Sustainability Challenges in the 21st Century.” Chirik was the second speaker in the spring 2023 HMEI Faculty Seminar Series.

The number of elements, where they come from and the amount energy required to mine and purify an element, determines the sustainability of your lifestyle in ways that most people do not appreciate. Chirik explored how everyday products determine how you interact with the periodic table and how his research lab is focused on a more sustainable lifestyle.
