Valuing the Climate: Recent Advances and Challenges
Solomon Hsiang, the Chancellor’s Associate Professor of Public Policy at the University of California-Berkeley, will present, “Valuing the Climate: Recent Advances and Challenges,” at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, in Guyot Hall, Room 10.
Hsiang, a past postdoctoral research fellow in Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, will discuss recent policy efforts to manage the climate like a capital asset by measuring the costs and benefits of climate — including hurricanes, weather variations and volcanic eruptions — on society. The integration of econometric methods and climate science have generated new insights and questions that may be extended to valuating non-climate resources.
