Film Screening and Panel Discussion: “SILENT PANDEMIC”

Join us on for a screening of “SILENT PANDEMIC – The global fight against Antimicrobial Resistance, followed by a panel discussion by Janet Currie (Henry Putnam Professor of Economics and Public Affairs), Simon Levin (James S. McDonnell Distinguished University Professor in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology), and Ramanan Laxminarayan (Senior Research Scholar, HMEI). Produced by Emmy Award-winner Leopold Hoesch, the film explores the global medical crisis of antibiotic resistance.

About Silent Pandemic

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is growing rapidly and is predicted to kill ten million people every year by 2050. In 2019, Director Michael Wech and producer Leopold Hoesch sought to tell the AMR story in their acclaimed documentary Resistance Fighters – The Global Antibiotics Crisis. With their follow up film Silent Pandemic, they continue the story by showcasing the search for solutions, and successes achieved so far in countries like Uganda, Pakistan, United States and Great Britain. Silent Pandemic (2022) explores the global fight against AMR and how countries, scientists and private initiatives around the world are searching for solutions.

With the collaboration of leading experts, policy makers and patients affected by AMR, the film is a call to action to get this global threat back in minds of all stakeholders and on the political agenda following the COVID-19 pandemic. It is directed by Michael Wech and produced by Emmy award winner Leopold Hoesch of BROADVIEW Pictures, in co-production with ZDF and in cooperation with ARTE.
