This short film, "The River of Muddy Water," looks at the many challenges to water security in Kenya by examining the confluence of Maasai farmers who rely on the Ewaso Ng'iro river for virtually all their water needs, the scientists who are studying and forecasting the water flows in the region, and policymakers who work to bring reliable water to local populations.

Two Students Receive Mary and Randall Hack ‘69 Graduate Award

Two graduate students were selected to receive the Mary and Randall Hack ‘69 Graduate Award in support of their innovative research on water and water-related topics with implications for the environment. The 2013 recipients are Carole Dalin from Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Xingli Giam from the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.

Grand Challenges Supports Testing Power In A Box

This summer, Bermuda is the testing ground for a unique project that aims to bring a renewable source of electrical power to disaster-torn regions.

The project comes out of Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey and is called Princeton Power in a Box. The idea was born after the 2008 Haiti Earthquake when relief workers and medical personnel struggled to save lives with the power grid completely knocked out in many places.
