The Environmental Social Sciences focus is intended for students who wish to expand their understanding of pressing environmental issues and related policy dimensions. Students may select from courses that address the economic, political, and social aspects of environmental topics by choosing courses across all four divisions of the University – humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering.

The following is a suggested sequence of courses for students who wish to focus their study on Environmental Policy.

  1. One core course: ENV 200A-F: “The Environmental Nexus”
  2. One advanced social science course: SPI 350/ENV 350: “The Environment: Science and Policy;”
  3. Three electives from the Generalist Track list, two of which must be from different academic divisions and should be at the 300-level or higher.
